Part 4 of my #AmericanRevolution #vexillology series: Taunton

The flag was first adopted in 1774 when the Sons of Liberty had forced out Loyalists from Taunton, MA. The red ensign was a common flag flown in the colonies at the time, as it signified British commercial ships and commercial endeavors, which the American colonies most definitely were. The red ensign defiantly defaced with “Liberty and Union” was one of the first flags used within the American colonies to express dissension against the Crown and still remains, to this day, the official city flag of Taunton, MA.
