Been craving tacos so went to this awesome taco truck after picking my daughter up from work. Ordered and asked the proprietors (a nice couple from Mexico) if they accepted #bitcoin. The wife told me that she didn't know how but would accept if she could. Pulled up a square terminal and told me I could try. They were very busy so I didn't really have time to explain much about accepting bitcoin so I just paid in cash. When my order was up I gave them a nostr:npub18kpw3akvdsyk239lx0jgwksr74sq4nlha3r8u9g2rnrhztfpfhysy469c4 sticker that I had in my car. Gave it to them and said if they were interested, this is a good place to start. They seemed thankful for the information.
1) The proprietor had heard of bitcoin and was willing to accept it but was not set up to do so. I am not sure what their current understanding of bitcoin is, I am guessing limited, but they knew it was money and were willing to ACCEPT it as payment for their tacos.
I eat there somewhat often but I will make an effort to eat there more and see if there is any movement in that direction, and of course continue to nudge them in that direction.
2) It allowed me to have a great conversation with my daughter, who is just beginning her work "career" and finding out about the ins and outs of money and saving...with a plenty helping of bitcoin discussions with her old man. While eating our tacos we talked about what remittances are and how a large chunk of money that hard working people who are sending money home to their loved ones is stolen through the traditional remittance process. She didn't think that was fair and neither do I.
We talked about how #bitcoin fixes this.
