People who use blue wallet. What the hell am I supposed to do with this error message:

API error: This LNDHub instance is scheduled to shut down. Withdraw any remaining funds (code 11)

There’s nothing on the blue wallet site, or lndhub.io about this… just an error message saying… your money will disappear. WTF!?

If they’re going to threaten something like this, how about telling users what to do. This isn’t like I’ve been using blue wallet a long time, I set it up, as a fresh install a few weeks ago. When you create a new wallet through blue wallet, it ONLY directs you to lndhub.io which then starts telling you they’ll be shutting down…. Googling I found that it’ll happen the end of April 30th… there’s an article which also just you’re going to lose your funds but not WHY or what to do about it!

https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-node-connection-shuts-down-bluewallet-users-urged-to-withdraw-funds

The ironic thing is there is a quote about how new users shouldn’t panic, but everything they’ve done ONLY causes new users to panic. Seriously… WTF!

So I’ve got Zeus and Blue Wallet both connected to the same wallet… meaning it’s just is this saying that blue wallet will stop support connecting to lndhub.io or that lndhub.io is shutting down? It’s not clear.

Move the funds out of that account. If you need another custodial LNDHub to use with Zeus you can use LNBits or Lightning Tip Not, but you should really run your own LND or CLN node.

The god has spoken

I mean, I have Zeus installed, but because it didn’t suggest any ligthning node I just am using the same one suggested by default by blue wallet… so uh, Zeus doesn’t really help because it also lacks documentation in app that I was able to find… just a blank text box saying what LND node to use… The UX… it’s not great.

Sorry. We should have never left a default in there. We removed it sometime last year.

Thankfully you still have time to withdraw those funds. We'll try to be louder and assist our users in migrating. I think we'll also add a warning message in app for users still connected to their hub in our next release for good measure.

It’s not really a big deal for me as I was keeping the btc elsewhere and just using it to do small payments.

More in general the UX needs work as it still requires a lot of knowledge.

Sorry didn’t properly read the issue, just saying that didn’t have good experience with BlueWallet but Zeus was great

Thing is that they will indeed stop supporting their custodial services, I believe

But if you use BlueWallet to connect to your own node and you have custody of your sats, you will all right

I got a telegram message a while ago from the local Bitcoin meetup organizer to withdraw any funds there. So I did.

“We did an experiment, now we’re shutting it down, you’ll lose your money but we’re not documenting what’s happening… “ sounds like a way to say never trust the BlueWallet people…

Oh, they’ve got documentation, they just don’t link to it or say it exists anywhere in the app! Brilliant.

It pertains only to their in-house custodial lightning service. When you setup a default lightning wallet in the app it connects to their lndhub.io node, which they are shutting down. Anyone who runs their own lndhub instance or otherwise has BlueWallet connected to their own node is not affected. Also does not affect on chain wallets. Best thing to do is withdraw any sats to another wallet like wallet of Satoshi. Sucks that they haven’t given better instructions in the app. It would be nice if they’d push an app update that includes a splash screen or something with instructions on what users should do so they don’t lose those funds.

So like, everybody who uses blue wallet setup with their defaults, loses their money unless they figure out how it works without documentation?

Isn’t it wild!? I decided to try Bitcoin lightning a few weeks ago after learning about it on Nostr. After a week of converting dollars to bitcoin and various waiting periods before I was allowed to transfer my own money out, I was then able to get it into BlueWallet where I could convert it into lightning. Cue another waiting period. Eventually I was able to buy my Nostrica tshirt.

Then a few days later I heard that my wallet was actually custodial, and my magic internet money will actually be destroyed if I don’t take action. And the recommended action seems to be to run my own money server? Give me a break.

I feel like I’m missing the cool part of Bitcoin Lightning. I could make a fast cryptocurrency too if I can put everyone’s money on a server that isn’t profitable for me to run. It’ll be a SQL database with two columns: your name and how much money you have. I’ll call it Bitcoin Thunder.

Try non custodial wallets like https://phoenix.acinq.co/

This worked for me. Thanks.

If you’re okay with staying custodial and it’s for relatively small funds https://ln.tips is pretty good. By default you operate though a telegram chat but you can link it to blue wallet or Zeus as well. Muun is a good non-custodial option for larger funds, but isn’t a true lightning wallet and can resort in higher fees for small transactions sometimes. I use these both of these in combo and it’s pretty seamless.

Thanks that’s helpful.

Thanks, it was almost scary how easy ln.tips was to set up.
