Has anyone used Matrix for messaging? Whats your thoughts?

Ive been playing with it a little today and must be missing something?

I used it a while ago.

It was pretty good for a community group chat.

Not ideal for direct messaging from memory.

Simplex is better for direct messaging & calls.

Self-hosting matrix isn't too horrible if you have a domain name to be able to link everything through. It is NOT good over tor.

StartOS makes it easy to start a synapse server, but, it's set up out of the box for tor use, which is painful.

It may be better to run a docker or container.
