Well since Jack and Co started banning people for political opinions or corpo state scrutiny, it was one of the few places you could turn to, especially during covid.

There are waves of interest in twitter alts and yeah gab has had a few as you mentioned. I've just not heard about it in the waves post-covid. ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

Since Elon took over Twitter and made some promises he would return free speech, a lot of people seemed to have bailed though.

I don't think Elon will truly live up to that promise though.
