I’ve noticed that I don’t want to zap podcasts who have sponsor spots in the middle of the show.

I know it’s not fair or rational even - they need to make something for their work, but somehow it feels like betrayal. They are getting around ad blocking and putting sponsor spots at the beginning because they know you’ll just skip the first few minutes. This really sucks. But maybe I suck more for complaining about it 🤷‍♂️

V4v is clearly not there yet and they need the ad spots but I wish they kept them in the beginning so I could skip them 😂

The worst is when the host pretends like it’s a good product by having used it a few times and then lying about it being the thing they use regularly. Why do this? Just say I tried it and it seems ok… 😂 and leave it at that. Don’t lie.

Anyway… / end rant

Yeah, some put a loading bar into the bottom of the stream during those pathetic endorsements. That makes it more skippable but yeah, it's annoying when you're listening to a podcast and maybe getting your hands dirty with garden work and can't skip that crap.

Exactly. Can’t escape the damn ads.

would you pay up front with LN to get one without the add?

Not up front no. Id need to listen first. If I felt like there’s value then yes. I don’t like unedited podcasts that last for 2 hours and don’t say much or anything. I know some people enjoy those but that’s just not me. Id probably not zap those.

I don't really begrudge sponsor spots...some are annoying, yet if the content is good, I'm ok with that...

At some point we'll be using zaps for support (and perhaps sponsorships will go the way of the phonograph record)...

You’re a better man. I should shut up and make my own podcast to see why those spots are necessary 😆

But I won’t.

😃

I do think podcasters are amazing--to come up with something relevant and interesting to say on a daily basis? I'm not sure I could do that--I'm just not that interesting...

I give them a lot of credit (and I've learned a lot from many of them)!

Ya me 2. That’s why I want to listen to them and not their ads 😆

I mostly consume podcasts (or any other content when available) via Youtube (free version). I generally don't mind ads at the beginning as long as they aren't excessively long. What I find most annoying is a podcast being interrupted by a Youtube native ad followed by a direct sponsor spot. So, for channels I'm not familiar with, I'll just skip sponsor spots impulsively. If it's a channel i know is likely to also subject me to Youtube native ads, I'll most likely skip any sponsor spots guilt free. For the rest, as long as the sponsor spots on a channel are consistently reasonably short (and few), I'll likely put up with them - especially at the beginning.

PS. If there's a way to block Youtube native ads on my AppleTV, I haven't been motivated enough to figure out how, yet. It is what it is. 🤷
