Hay and straw for me. I spent most summers helping nearby farms put up their hay and we usually had ungulates I to feed.

oh, i didn't realise that this appellation applied to the split hoof type. ok. well yeah.
horses are great, but although i've eaten horse jerky and i suspect that horse yoghurt is probably quite good, i will leave it to the mongols lol. i prefer sheep and goats. to be honest, although i love the taste of beef, sheep and goats are the highest utility and most universally suitable animals for human food, and sheep are the king, highest fat content, also make great fibres for clothing, that are not just warm but water resistant, they are easy to manage, small enough they aren't going to cause much injury to their keepers, and tasty enough that it'll work for me. although i prefer goats overall, because they are more ornery, eat anything, are ridiculous and less of a herd animal, and are very suited to mountain life.
