Exactly it only serves the state. Give me another logical reason the first time I voted was in 1980 and I was in 2nd grade. I remember Regan won in our school by like 90% of the vote and the teachers seemed so confused. It was a Catholic school and one of my few honestly good memories about it. Four years later when it happened again in 6th grade and I was more able to understand it, it was even better.

The two best elections of my lifetime were when my vote didn't count, like even among the believers it didn't count. That alone says so much.

Yet it is clear to me that mock elections in schools are simply programming. Ironically in 88 in rural PA in a public school, we didn't do it at all.
