We have hit the time of immortality whether you want it or not. If you are or have been submitting your likeness and content to the internet there is a swarth of data to recreate your likeness and persona just "good enough".

In 2023 I can spin up a chatbot, train video, train audio, and have a realtime conversation with "you". Where will we be in 10, 20, XXX years? Your likeness will be and is being trained so that your offspring can pay to "re-live" your moments with "you" in AR.

Have that conversation with a long lost loved one you never had before. See how things may have turned out if you made the other decision. Act as a pin cushion voodoo doll for your enemies. It is a scary and mind-numbing thought.

And there is nothing you or any of us can do about it. I'll repeat - there is NOTHING you can do about it.

Digital Immortality is real. You may keep your pictures off the Facebooks of the world, but a photo ID and record of you exists somewhere. See you in the future. 😉

Im sure the folks felt the same way about photograpghs in 1800

In some cases they may have been correct assuming the photo survived to the point where it could be digitized and later trained on.

The natives regard cameras as soul stealers

You may already be digital. I don't know what to do now that you've figured it out 🤔

Our words here on nostr will never die. That's kinda cool to me.

👋 Sup future.

Disagree completely. People have many facets and many keep large portions of who they are out of their online postings.

Do I believe you could recreate Bill Cypher, yeah pretty well. I have other aspects of who I am that I hint at at most using this Nym. I have ideas and beliefs I never post about publicly under any name.

Context creates the person. We are all always a self plus a social context. I can never be the same person to my wife and my best friend even if I tried. They each bring a unique context that creates a different me.

At best I can hope the best parts of me are what gets immortalized. The panopticon necessary to collect the whole self is far far away.

Yet at the end of the day, it’s fake, so there’s zero value in something with no actual substance to it.

Thought-provoking! I like to think that convincing responsive/interactive renditions are a ways off yet. Maybe not though. My mind went to the following when Bender spoke with God.

BENDER: So, do you know what I'm gonna do before I do it?

GOD: Yes.

BENDER: What if I do something different?

GOD: Then I don't know that.
