If all he did was run a drug website like I initially believed, then I think he should be free already. It's the murdering 5 people thing I take issue with.

if he would have been convicted of murder of 5 people then probably nobody would complain.

but he is not and there are no people dead. (and as far as I remember even one of the people who should have been killed spoke out in favor if him)

and even if we assume the chat is real and from him the sentence is not justified, is it? actual murderers have gotten way less.

It’s been many years that I researched the case more - I need to refresh it - but just from looking at the crimes he is convicted for the sentence is a no-go. (esp. in comparison to other sentences of similar crimes)

I can accept the idea that the 5 people (actually 6) were not actually murdered. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2015/02/the-hitman-scam-dread-pirate-roberts-bizarre-murder-for-hire-attempts/ Now we are getting closer to the truth. But should Ross be forgiven for trying? This is not like an oopsie whoopsie, had a brain fart haha my bad kind of issue.

again, first of all he is not convicted of that. so it seems it is not that clear.

but as I said before and to go with it, what should be a justified sentence for that? and is his sentence justified for you justified - and compared that to other sentences.

what should be my sentence of saying Alex should be killed? ;)

For creating Silk Road, I think there should be no punishment at all. For hiring hitmen multiple times and attempting to kill 6 people, I think he should spend life in prison.

That's not what happened. What should your sentence be if you paid a hitman $150,000 to kill me but he didn't actually? Look at it from my perspective - this guy being out of jail is a danger to my life. Just because he failed to do it doesn't make it justice.

He hired a hitman for $80K to kill someone. Then he later hired a different hitman for $150K to kill someone. Then he hired the same hitman again for $650K to kill 4 more people. Each time he believed he was doing it. They sent him photos of the body (which detectives recovered... but I guess was fake?)

He sent money the money (to the second guy) to a Bitcoin address, which you can look at and verify. It's included in the transcript.

They are saying the second guy scammed him hard and never actually committed any of the murders. The first guy supposedly also scammed him. But imagine paying someone nearly a million dollars to kill 6 people. This man is a danger to society.

I brought up Aaron Swartz because he is an actual libertarian icon who was falsely prosecuted. Why not choose better heroes? I stand by it that Ross is the George Floyd of Bitcoin bros. Maybe even moreso that they didn't actually commit the murders.

Shouldn’t you then call for the prosecution of that crime? and that the crimes he is convicted for is commuted?

It’s not OK or how things work or should work.

one is and should be sentenced for the crime that somebody committed and is convicted based on a due court process with evidence presented.

it also has nothing to do with “heros”. it must be about justice and not if somebody likes somebody or not.

In the Assange case many people said there was a rape case and because of that he is guilty of everything and people did not care.

which is bad imo.

if there was case A then one must be prosecuted for that, but that has mostly nothing to do with another case case B.

and if you say he is a danger, did you look at his actions in prison?

Thought long and hard about that and went through a lot of the legal documentation to figure out what exactly could be proven regarding the “hits” and the certainty of it being Ross choosing to go for it after the entrapment from the agents.
