Everyone can still use WOS.
Phoenix wallet allows you to self custody Bitcoin lightning without your own node or specifying one. Zeus is almost there with the "node inside the phone".
Transactions often fail, connections too.
Unless you want to dedicate a significant amount of your time to operating nodes for small coffee chain on lightning, its not worth it.
I continue to use WOS and recommend it for newbies as a small change wallet great for travel when you meet foreign street merchants who dont know the difference between on chain and LN and dont speak your language.
Lets not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
I definitely encourage you to learn the self custody way, knowledge is power. Then you can decide what combination of the solutions you want to implement in your life.

I guess some people are so closed minded, they dont know how to do things in an alternative way and are dependent on their overlords.
Fellow non-technical dummy here. You can spin up a node via Zeus by sending an on-chain transfer. Then later on, you can connect it to a node of your own. I use Zeus to spend and Alby (connected to Zeus to stack).
It was dead easy.
