Instagram and tiktok have way more users than Twitter yet we don’t have any clients that have similar browsing experience for mostly media. How come?
Discussion
I thought it was because at least for TikTok there’s a lot of AI required to make it work. (And content)
Gotta start somewhere! If the client exist that will force media upload improvements and we’ll get more of that content.
Yeah seem slidestr long ago. Has potential but imo we need a native app with a smooth experience
Media focused platforms are all trash IMO. Hate insta and tiktok.
I thought xitter ranked higher but I also don't think MAUs is the only metric. I think, text-based platforms are just more relevant for a censorship resistant protocol.

No

We need the old periscope!
For a long time I thought you were talking about actual people/business “clients”.
You’re talking about browsers, right?
Who the fuck cares?
Nostr is the only platform where “clients” or whatever matters.
The others are all about centralized, controlled “experience”.
If I’ve read your post wrong, I apologize whole-heartedly!
JUST BUILD IT ALL.
IF PEOPLE LIKE IT THEY WILL USE IT.
Amethyst has its media tab. More or less like Youtube Shorts / Instagram Stories / Tiktok Feed. It just needs polishing and optimization.
It doesn't fit:
- the early adopters (don't publsih that type of content much)
- nor the early builders (don't need it themselves).
So, for now, you have very few of both.
A pinterest-like app that algorithmically curates images from the web based on your interests (or even generates them) might be easiest to bootstrap since you don't initially need users to publish + curate content. Privacy and Algo-selection would be the main value prop.
Even Pixelfed in the fediverse is not getting enormous traction. I think it depends on the audience…
It would be neat to have a media-only filter/feed within Damus/Primal that could combine the UX of Twitter/insta/tiktok in a seamless way.
Nostr shatters the silo model.
Try hosting all that video content then redevelop all the dumb filters that both apps have.
Ew.
