Thinking seriously about doing this next year. My kid is dyslexic and it’s awesome for creativity but can be challenging in a normative school environment, and it is not helping her self-confidence. But she’s 8 and friends are so important to her… it’s a tough decision.

Lots of opportunities for friends while homeschooling, especially for kids that value and thrive with the social interactions. My kids make friends at their sports, arts classes, and especially at programs meant for homeschool kids, where they'll meet kids from families more likely to have similar values to yours. And for the kids that aren't so into being social (yet), they don't have the pressure to do so until they're ready.

The social exposure requires a little parental time and attention, but I encourage you to not view it as a necessary trade off with the choice to homeschool.

thanks, it’s definitely on the table for next year, so much of school is stultifying to development
