“The advantage of meditation is recognizing just how out of control your mind is. It is like a monkey flinging feces, running around the room, making trouble, shouting, and breaking things. It’s completely uncontrollable. It’s an out-of-control madperson.”

Serious question at you.

I started asking people I know well enough to no be awkward if they had an inner dialogue.

The answers I get are astounding.

I meet people all the time that don't know what tf I'm talking about.

"You mean like when the TV narrative tells you what the person is thinking?"

me: yeah. like that but Its just me talking in my head.

They often think I'm kidding.

apparently many people don't have an inner monologue

mine doesn't stop, and asks awkward questions all the time

My inner voice sometimes likes to pretend it's other people's thoughts.

Sometimes I wonder if it is.

i sometimes try to pretend that my inner voice is other voices

sometimes it is, and i know because it knew stuff i couldn't have known

but really, how do people not understand the idea of thinking? i mean, that's what it is, thinking, like, speaking to yourself = thinking, how is that not widely understood?

Well I think technically the whole universe is mental, so you could call anything thinking.

I also think there is a kind of instantaneous, transcendental thought and mute instinct.

I speak to myself, with myself ALL THE TIME.
