Daydreaming of a low maintenance, (affordable) bike build I could potentially work on as a project. (If I ever get time to go to the bike maintenance workshop project near me).

But yeah thinking of low maintenance, almost-bombproof hybrid bike build. (But not pricey/showy/gonna get stolen). A bit like a prepper's bike, but maybe the post-post-apocalypse has been going on for a bit, and you can cycle about lol.

Just doing basic daydream research now. But thinking Ridgeback Day (0, 01, 02 etc?) frame firstly.

Tyres: marathon plus

(Although probably should be something no inner tubes lol)

Any thoughts on a low maintenance workhorse that's a bit of an all rounder but also not pricey lol? #asknostr

Also happy to hear super pricey nukeproof builds for fun lol

Something like an old velosport frame. From the 70s or 80s. That’s what I used to make a one speed. Very sturdy and not too heavy

Yes. That is exactly the sort of thing very sturdy:not too heavy

Peugeot also made bike frames in the 70s. Sturdy. If you take care of it it’ll last a lifetime. My velosport frame is probably 40-50 years old already

You got a Peugeot frame? They do look nice

It’s a velo sport frame. I think Peugeot made them in the 70s. I meant there’s also Peugeot branded ones that are very durable

I'm pretty happy with my Surly Preamble.

That does look like an amazing bike. Bit out of my price range and it would probably get robbed within minutes where I work lol

I brought my beater bike in for repairs and the bike mechanic told me he could fix it but I should save some money and buy a new one. It was beat to hell. 😂

Yeah sometimes I feel like every time I take my bike to get repaired i may as well buy a 2nd hand one off Facebook and repeat every 1 - 2 years lol. But that feels like madness and wasteful. But sorta makes more economic sense

I keep thinking about Surly bikes after this note lol. They might actually be the perfect bike. Long Haul Trucker 😍

You know you want it. 😀

Oh I definitely want one. That part is not the problem lol 😹 the price they go for (2nf hand) and the probability of it getting nicked lol

Not a problem for me. I ride for exercise not as a commuter. I guess you want the cheapest looking parts and a good lock or three.
