Mars is cruel to be kind. At 29 she came to the planet to join one of the first permanent stations. While on an exploratory mission the team's rover broke down, catastrophic failure 200k from base. They died one by one. She was small so her Oxygen lasted longer. She walked out, wandered to her inevitable death, until she found the plant. She touched it, and it grew into her, or she into it. The memory of that moment was always with her, a ghost of who, or what, she once was.

Dr Shannon looked at the mess.

"Barry, I'm sorry to say that you've flunked this test. It is back to class for you."

"Damnit. It looked like every other bit of this desert."
