A poem I wrote based on my homeland.

The Cape:

White foam crashes against ancient stone

The windswept sand swirls and stings

Waters rush, chilling to the bone

A lone gull circles and sings

This land is stuck inside of me

Its gnarled roots dig deep and true

My people once came here hopeful, free

Treacherous sails across the ocean blue

Rolling hills of bush and shrub

Mountain tall, majestic, flat

The Mother City a cultural hub

At her toes the ocean laps

This land is hard and makes hard men

Their sun-baked skin like leather

The women tough, unwilling to bend

Their tongues are quick and clever

I love this land I call my home

Though strife and struggle it brings

Forged in hardship, tough as stone

This land is the land of kings

Capetown, South Africa? I have family in Johannesburg that I would visit when I was younger and always heard them talk about how beautiful it was to see the oceans meet
