Blockstream Green wallet now has live swaps between lightning and liquid, like aqua wallet. You can pay lightning invoices with liquid now. This is, in my opinion, a quality upgrade from there solely lightning based greenlight channel implementation. I've almost never had a successful transaction using green wallets lightning channel, meanwhile, I've never run into a liquid transaction failure.

It just moves the lightning success dependency to boltz. Just like using aqua or misty breez. They all use boltz liquid swaps.

Yes, the infrastructure dependency is a huge problem. However, well known alternatives like sideswap also exist so while one is the majority used, there are available options if boltz were to go down thankfully. Boltz is more popular because it is non custodial and initiates atomic swaps. Sideswap has a custodial model which isn't preferable but is helpful in a jam. I am not making the case it's the best option, just nice that there is some progress being made.

Totally.

One idea, if you find yourself using that method a lot, is making a lightning channel with boltz. Then youd get the same success rate without having to use liquid.

I had a channel with boltz once before but because of faulty hardware (mine), resulted in a forced closure. I've used liquid as an intermediary for a few years now between stacking and cold storage. The only channel I still have that has never given me issues is my phoenix wallet, but that too has its own set of tradeoffs. If I had someone who could sit down with me and help me idiot proof my lightning node setup, I'd prefer that, but my multiple failed attempts have been anxiety inducing and expensive lol

I dont blame you. I assume your forced closure was an LND node?

Yeah on a crap pi4 with umbrel. What would you recommend?

I swapped LND for CLN a few years ago due to all the forced closures. Dont get them anymore.
