notice two things about this picture:

1 - the photographer can't sit in the middle of the court, so the picture is taken from across the court, so the zoom is substantial

2 - even though Lexie Hull is sitting right next to Caitlin Clark she is out of focus because she leaned forward, while Caitlin is in perfect focus - this means the aperture of the lens is HUGE

if this picture was taken with a phone capable of this level of zoom ( such as a flagship Samsung or Apple which use periscope type telephoto zoom lens ) every single person in this picture would be in focus including everybody in the background leaving the photographer with no means of showing who this picture is actually supposed to be of ...

instead Lexie is slightly out of focus and the spectators are blown the fuck out - perfect !

sadly unless i win the lottery i will never be able to afford to play with toys like this lens because unless you are a professional photographer there is simply no justifying the price unless you are paid for every picture you take
