Went kayaking through the huge series of canals way in the south of Mexico City.

The people here are so resourceful. The built all this arable land on shallow lakes with attrition. No roads go out here and they move everything around by gondola and push pole. They make their own houses, land (literally) and a lot of their own equipment.

So this entire (large) community is functioning out there with no police or government regulations. Just trade-oriented cooperation and hard work. It was so fucking cool to see and completely unexpected.

Awesome! Looks like Chinampas- which go back to the Aztec days (or probably before)

Exactly what I thought of! Nice!

I haven’t heard of it but will look into them. Mexico has a crazy deep history.

Would you mind sharing the coordinates, please?

Sí I will get you the info from my GF when I see her later. It’s an absolutely surreal experience I’d recommend to anyone who can speak español bc they don’t speak a lick of inglés lol

Jealous

My girl brought me 😭 she’s such a cool person and is game to adventure. Adventures lead to some unexpected discoveries. Probably one of the most interesting places I’ve ever been.
