Is AC: Shadows already a failure?
Discussion
We don't have data. What we can see from steamdb, it look like it in comparison with KC:D2 and with information about much bigger costs on AC side.
But we do not know about other platforms.
Reviews on steam are positive but it's probably sampling bias
Exactly. I think they may suffer from subscribtions - why pay 70€ for a game that you can play for ~15€ via Ubiplay (as much as I hate all kinds of subscriptions).
Also there were some way to get 20% discount day 1… so they canibalise a lot on themselves. And yes, corporate (!)!strucure based in socialist (!) France is doomed to fail anyway.
I am kind of sorry. I am a big AC fan even though it’s not the game I used to love with Ezio trilogy and/or Black Flag…
If that discount has been with some other store with less store fee it posible less hit because how big Steam sale fee is.
For me, i played only first AC. It's not game what I prefere. And I rly hate when SP games introduce nicrotransactions
Never had a problem I would feel forced to spend money. AFAIK in AC games all microtransaction were something like coolest mount or nice armor.
I’m not sure about the discount though. My friend told me he paid ~50€ instead of full price and I saw some guides about that.
But since my entry point in most games is below 30€ (20€ preferably) I can patiently wait. Still have Ghosts of Tsusima on my list, so probably I’ll take that in Easter sale and wait for AC to go lower to a more reasonable price.
For AC:Shadows its more severe. Like gameplay. in-game resources and full map unlock.
From my point of view, for SP game is amoral to want sell skins. For this there are mods.
