Will the more open access to information and platforms for discussion and dissemination in a more decentralised world result in less understanding of scientific topics or does it provide a greater platform for pushback against ego of those in scientific ivory towers?

A name carries a lot of weight in research and a rebuttal can crush aspiring new researchers. I am sure a lot has taken place in the past that might result in stymie of the scientific growth of knowledge but am curious whether a far more open field of questioning will improve our human knowledge base
