You should have an ounce per head of your household in case shit hits the fan and you need to get out of dodge to somewhere with electricity where you can use your corn.
I stash an ounce when I travel too. Worst case you get robbed of your phone/wallet/docs, you can get some cash and not be homeless or reliant on others to sort you out.
You can buy hot dogs at Costco too. Go for it.
