Speaking from experience. I've tried getting people to use it as well as Session. All I get are looks of confusion.

I settled on Signal for "normal" communication. Just put an out of office on WhatsApp one day saying if you want to message me download Signal with a link. Got all my family on it, most of my friends and some work colleagues.

SimpleX looks like a good long term solution but the UX is not there yet.
