In 1918, as Bessarabia united with Romania, #FatherAlexandru fervently supported the cause, advocating for the Romanian language in churches. During the Bolshevik occupation in 1940, he refused to abandon his flock. Arrested in 1941, he endured torture, refusing to renounce his faith or betray his parishioners. He was martyred near Galați.
