We've been on that timeline since the rashidun caliphate was dismantled with aggression and genocide on Muslims who didn't want to be taken over forcibly by some rogue city mayor turned self proclaimed king and subsequent murder, rape, kidnapping and chasing of the family of the prophet pbuh. There's a hadith from the prophet pbuh about the period between his model and the people of the end times(unknown when or who) and that between them is the muddy period فترة الكدر which obviously includes the shitty politicized and fantasized so called islamic jurisprudence that's mostly built on cathedral like arrogance and structure and accumulated compound ignorance opinions based on opinions as if they're sacred and we get people like mawardi and such normalizing Umayyad and Abbasid governance as if it was islam even though islam is right there in the Qur'an that's being actively ignored and in the verifiable non contradictory unbiased chains of hadith, also other hadiths corroborating the sentiment in general including his hadith saying "So that the bonds of Islam may be broken one by one, and whenever one bond is broken, people cling to the next one, beginning with the ruling(governance) الحكم and ending with prayer."
