Our beekeeping mentor un Apalacicola passed away on Thursday, (not from the storm, he passed peacefully, he was in his 80s). His son says they can maybe get to check on the bees today.

Mr Merritt was ChemE grad from Auburn. He was so tired of DuPont telling him what car to drive, clubs to join, where to live, that he bought land in tupelo country and started keeping bees. He ditched a six-figure salary, comfort and security, to work hard in the hot sun, harvest honey, follow his passion. He was a worm-grunter, too, as he loved to fish. He taught us so much. He was our friend and mentor. I will miss him, we both will. He had a good run. Bee at peace my friend.

My condolences. I’m sorry you lost your friend. He sounds like a great soul.

Thank you. He helped through many bee seasons. He said we could trailer our bees to his land and harvest the tupelo, if we wanted to do.
