The USA reports it’s first fatal #H5N1 infection - the Louisiana woman who had been recently hospitalized with severe #Avian #influenza
The US has reported 66 human H5N1 cases since the start of 2024. Most of these were of the clade circulating in dairy herds. But both this Louisiana fatality and the hospitalized teen in Canada had the type of H5N1 found in wild birds.
