this has me thinking, is it possible for sp500 to keep up with m2 if a super majority of m2 ends up not in sp500?

Difficult to say, bitcoin also does not follow any constant in the rise of m2 but, if instead m2 sets the pace.
For example these days bitcoin has had a lower correlation with m2 due to ETF demand, this would be applicable to the sp500.
Regardless of mass m2 also affects demand.
