How exactly does the Coast Guard hurt Americans?
Discussion
I never said it did.
I knew someone was going to be insanely literal and drop something that misses my most important point. No one on any side of this issue could make any point about anything if we judged them against a list of every single federal budget line item.
I would actually say the Coast Guard helps prove my point. It's one of the few American military services that directly serves most Americans. The rest is mostly off doing shit most of us probably don't benefit from.
I didn't know the CG was specifically affected. I didn't need to read through every single line item to make a general point because I've seen enough examples already. But this seems to just add to my point.
You said the worst of the government isn’t shut down, and that we’d be better off if the whole thing actually did shut down and left producers and free markets do their thing.
I pointed out a contradiction which you seem to agree with, the coast guard is a federal government agency that does good, and protects free markets and producers, in fact that was the entire purpose of its founding.
I intended to clarify the nuance is not as simple as “shut it all down it hurts us all!” And as such the conversation should reflect that.
