Who remembers an enjoyable process in the education system? 🀨

Probably not many from my generation. πŸ™ˆ

I'm not saying there is no such thing as a good school, I'm sure there are some here and there... However, for the most part, the education system generally fails most children (& quite often parents won't even know the extent of how badly) πŸ‘€

I do love these ideas from ancient Roman times πŸ’œ

"Quintilian believed education should be an enjoyable process of inculcating knowledge into the child. At no point should the child find education distasteful.

In fact, Quintilian stated: I am not however so unacquainted with differences of age as to think that we should urge those of tender years severely, or exact a full complement of work from them; for it will be necessary, above all things, to take care lest the child should conceive a dislike to the application which he cannot yet love, and continue to dread the bitterness which he has once tasted, even beyond the years of infancy. Let his instruction be an amusement to him; let him be questioned and praised, and let him never feel pleased that he does not know a thing; and sometimes, if he is unwilling to learn, let another be taught before him, of whom he may be envious. Let him strive for victory now and then, and generally suppose that he gains it; and let his powers be called forth by rewards, such as that age prizes." - Ron Malhotra, Indoctrinated

I really enjoy reading what you post.

I have little to say or offer, as our lives are very different, but I really enjoy your thoughtful 100% commitment to your kids, and your life.

Thanks πŸ™πŸΌ I'm glad you're enjoying this. Sometimes I wonder if anyone will get something from my posts. It's great to know you enjoy this πŸ€©πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ

I have a pretty great memory of school. I went in Decroly who is a contemporain of Freinet, Montessori maybe also Alexander Neill. I really enjoyed it! But... times have changed and the school grow up too much. The name is still there but the philosophy isn't so much anymore I think. And also.... I would be so sad to be far from my kids 8 hours / day 5 days a week !

Oh wow, I hear this a lot. Some schools with amazing philosophies have been diluted to keep up with government rules and curriculum expectations which is terrible. πŸ˜”

Also, I agree. I love being with my children. I'm in denial that my teens are getting older and may want to leave home in the next few years πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ™ˆ
