I didn’t sign up because it required an email address and I didn’t want to associate my identity directly with a hardware wallet.

welp…

i think with all the issues that square has been having turns me off tbh…

I saw in the features list that you can recover btc if u lose the bitkey, so I'm unsure whether to call it a hardware wallet or not. surely that means the private keys leave the device

It's a multi-sig device. TBD has one of the keys for you, the device has one, and the app on your phone has the other. I believe... I could be incorrect.

That makes sense, so a 2-of-3 would mean you could still lose the device or your phone and recover to a new one.

Yes. I believe that's the plan unless I am not recalling correctly.

oh interesting, so that would be 2 of 3 multisig with you holding 2 keys and TBD holding the 3rd? I guess some people might be okay with that. me personally I don't want any corp holding one of my keys. what if my phone got stolen and TBD for hacked? you never know

interesting…

A tardware wallet then

That’s what you want for mass adoption though, almost nobody is responsible enough to manage their own keys. Especially this guy. 🤣
