I thought WhatsApp, Facebook or Twitter were going to be the first apps to integrate Lightning but that did not happen.

Nah, they’re too controlled by fiat investors. Twitter only implemented a half-baked feature that still requires KYC that doesn’t work for most of the world. For any social networking platform to fully embrace bitcoin, it had to be rebuilt from the ground up.
