Apparently, mosquitos release an enzyme just under the skin when they bite you that causes you to itch so when you scratch, you increase blood flow.

And you can denature this enzyme by heating a metal spoon in 120 degree water and pressing it to the bite. The spoon should be hot, barely tolerable but not to the point of burning you, and you only have to leave it on your skin for a second.
