Testing out armor decor ideas for my Darth Bane 3D bust. The face is starting to feel like Bane as I see him, although it is too early to sculpt the skin micro details.

For the armor decorations I first compose a 2D image with number of circles and spokes in grayscale. White represent elevation and black is hollow depth. Then I transform the 2D result into a 3D mesh that I can integrate into the sculpture.

In Zbrush the best path for a high quality mesh result, in my experience, is transforming the 2D design into an IMM brush which I can later deform into fitting the target shape.
If I just use a 2D alpha with a DamStandard brush then I don't get the same height effect or mesh quality and I often end up with unwanted distortions in the mesh.
