I respectfully think that is a cop out. Most users do not appreciate the risk and the amount of money they trust with custodial wallets increases over time.

Totally hear you. I'd love to see custodial wallets pushing for users to store their bitcoin elsewhere past certain amounts. To be honest though, the folks I know who want to use Nostr would want to cash their bitcoin out to bitrefill or cash app if they're earning on Nostr / playing bitcoin games. They're not really interested in saving bitcoin for the long term. They need their money, now.

I just don't think it's the priority or the main issue right now. Onboarding folks onto Nostr is already really difficult and then adding the additional layer of using a lightning wallet is super confusing. AND THEN if you introduce the concept of self custody, you totally lose them.

There's too many layers here and when you're dealing with real life normal people, self custody is the last thing they will understand.
