Oh right! Good on you for giving it a go. We've been out in the world travelling almost five years now so very much settled into this way of life. I'd love to hear more about your CR experience as I'm curious about it not being what it's marketed as? You're welcome to send via dm (I use 0x chat) if you prefer. 😃

That’s impressive Melissa, I admire you for being able to sustain it. I think that perhaps the ages of your children could play a part and of course how many you have. Then there is also your needs and how much instability and movement you can handle individually.

Look Costa Rica from the outside is all beautiful beaches, wildlife and pura vida. It seems to give out this all is perfect and we are so westernised vibes. For sure it’s beautiful and there are very developed parts where all the gringos go to holiday and stay in resorts. As a travelling living around the locals and seeking to experience the wider countryside and culture it’s a country of extreme mismatch between the haves and have nots. Its prices are massively overinflated, the cost of living is ridiculous for a developing country with such average infrastructure and the Ticos are really struggling to get by. The poverty is real there.

I can’t help but wonder where all the money from tourism goes?

Ahh gotcha. Yes we have seen a few places similar to this. It makes sense. We notice it a little here in DR. Like I could spend this much for a nice house in a developed country, kind of doesn't add up really. I think a lot of times it is (sadly) foreigners coming to these poorer countries buying up real estate and marketing to home countries driving up the prices quickly and never really benefiting the people of the land :(

And as for the lifestyle, yes, we were already homeschooling towards unschooling since my older two were 7 & 8, almost 9 years total now. Kids are aged from 2-17. personally we found the younger ages easier, the teens told us last year they wanted a base. We went to NZ, set up a base and three months later everyone wanted to travel again 😂

It's harder to find families travelling with older kids, this has been our biggest challenge. Families with younger children tend to be everywhere... And then my teens seem to be a bit resistant/ reluctant to go out and meet new people. Mine are introverts 😅

But yep, our whole family just prefers the life of travel. Now we are just figuring out how to travel with a few good friends so kids can keep hanging out with their mates 💯🤩

Cool, well done to you and your kids. NZ is our home. South Island, did you make in to Queenstown?

Oh wow, NZ is our original home too. We're from Rotorua. We didn't do south island last year, but we did visit back in 2020 when we started our travels. We love it down there. 💯 but too cold for me to live 😅

Same for us. Hence we are now in Perth. Go Kiwis!
