I'm going to stick on my tinfoil hat here and suggest that Brand was allowed by his handlers to the "face" of the truth movement, just so they could take a hot shit on said face.
I don't see what purpose it serves to make random assumptions about him or her being a spy. That only drives focus on infighting rather than fighting the shared enemy.
