I think the most optimistic view of the idea of “bLOcKChaIn for X” (divorced from VC rug pulls) is rooted in a desire for truth in a world of opacity, falsehoods, untruths, and lies.

Fundamentally it jumps the gun of course. To build Rome, one cannot jump guns, nor do it in a day.

The only thing a blockchain can protect is its own history. When you put something else "on" it, you need an authority to enforce ownership. Once you have an authority, there's no benefit to a blockchain over a centralized database / Merkle tree.
