I agree. but I don't want to require the use of lightning to have a good experience on nostr.

I think it’s opposite. Lightning is killer feature and can be be used for plethora of features
agree lightning is killer feature. but imo best way to spread adoption is attract users with features, and then show how much better that feature is with lightning.
Then accept fiat to pay for usage. People pay USD (for example) up front and their balance slowly drains.
