I mean just backspace those letters out and type nsec at the beginning.

Yes. It’s under settings->keys.

The converter doesn’t know that you pasted your nsec instead of an npub.

nsec and npub are just added to the beginning. They’re not part of the hash. If you pasted a hex nsec, you should be able to change npub to nsec with no issue.
