Signal's CEO: "We're leaving Sweden"
Sweden's government is pushing through new legislation that forces Signal, WhatsApp, and all other messengers to SAVE all messages for the government to gather. Signal is pushing back. [1]
Once again, I encourage you to check out our recent podcast on Mullvad, whose home is in Sweden, and this exact criticism was laid out (predicting this news story based on the past votes). And that was the least of the criticisms. [2]
Simplified Privacy has no bank accounts and no registration with any country for this exact reason. And that's why encryption as identity tools, such as Nostr and PGP-arbitration-registration, are our true home.

At least it's good to see that Signal is taking a stance! I wouldn't want them to compromise, but I am relying a lot on Signal for daily communication...
No issue for me to fully switch to SimpleX or Nextcloud or whatever but good luck switching my whole extended family again...

Depending how you use SimpleX but SimpleX don't know you so can not share your Data
Yes SimpleX is very good and I use it with some people. You can even run your own relays so no one can have access to your data. But of course it is a less mature product, maybe it is not what people expect yet. I think it is getting better and soon it should be able to compete with the big apps.
I'm in the same boat. It took a long time to convince everyone to move away from Telegram to Signal. I don't think they'll do it again.
Yeah exactly. I switched them from Viber and then WhatsApp years ago...

Yeah... Maybe I just use a VPN instead of switching everyone again...
That’s what I did! We implemented the Proton VPN at the router level in our household to preserve at least some level of privacy. There were no friction there, at the very least.

Yes something to consider for sure! But first let's just see how things really play out with the Swedish demands...
