The duomo in Florence has the largest free standing masonry dome in the world. At the time it was the largest dome in the world.

Filippo Brunelleschi was the mastermind behind its construction. He had to reinvent construction and engineering methods that had been previously used to build Greek and Roman structures, and probably Egyptian and even older societies.

This blows my mind. There was so much knowledge lost after the fall of Rome and through other cataclysms throughout the ages. For our species to be here today with the technology we have is absolutely insane.

Is it possible that our society could also fall and most of our knowledge would be lost again? I would say no. Because of the discovery of the internet and also nostr, this will NEVER happen again.

At least that’s how I understand it. Information on the internet is safe as long as somebody saves it. But wouldn’t nostr be even more permanent than the internet, since notes cannot be deleted? Am I understanding this correctly?

Big if true.
