Never thought of the unrealistic expectations before. That’s a good point. Someone genuine and honest spins up an npub, does their first intro post. Gets lots of zaps. Gets excited. Posts quite a few notes in the first week or two. Never gets that much zaps again. Quits. Makes sense. Hashtag introductions isn’t proof of work nor is it value

Yea, I don’t know where the best balance is between demonstrating how cool zaps are and setting people up for disappointment. 😂 But I think in general nostr err’s on the side of setting people up for disappointment and/or encouraging scammers to create fake profiles. So I tend to shy away from zapping new users until I see what they’re posting.

I stopped zapping newcomers a while back. I think it’s the same reason why I lost interest in zapathons. Both have too much potential to be abused by scammers.

No doubt about it we’re setting them up for disappointment.

When our wave started on nostr, we were from twitter or some were new. We didn’t have a zapping committee in introductions. No weird expectations. And a lot of us are still here. Something to think about I guess

Absolutely. Or even were here before zaps when it was a bunch of invoices flying back and forth, lol. Probably a little scammery here and there with that, but in general it just seemed like a bunch of people playing with a new toy. We’re definitely well beyond those days now, though.

Definitely. Now when I see an invoice it’s 90% scammy behaviour and 10% npubs shitposting. It’s very easy to tell them apart. Please sir mi familia is getting old. That and hashtag zapathon on a Monday morning 😂

This is wise
