For the second time this year I made a credit card payment and I’m shocked how bad the UX has gotten:

- Enter card details and address

- Get redirected to 2FA portal

- Log into bank website (requires 2FA SMS)

- Obtain “secure code,” which requires a 2nd 2FA SMS

- Enter secure code into 2FA portal

- Obtain 3rd 2FA SMS, enter into portal

- Payment confirmed, receive confirmation SMS

At this point I suspect banks are even making it easier for scammers, as they patiently walk you through this kafkaesk security theater.

That Lightning isn’t available as an online payment even for high-risk transactions should make you seriously doubt yourself, Bitcoin and the world around you.

Buying gift cards via LN through nostr:npub18tcc00lqpysdsurg567dllzg7jeyr5wcyk2v6w23rx3s3ygyze2qv32nxx and using the gift cards is easier than credit card UX and you earn Sats back.

I use gift cards regularly but they also often suck. They are better than cards, but not a substitute for Bitcoin adoption

Haha

At this point opening your own lightning channels has better UX than credit card payments

So why is nobody using Lightning? It’s maybe 1% of Bitcoiners, which already only make up only 1% of the population

I could imagine the bitcoiners who don't use lightning are just not interested in the technology (just an investment for them) or afraid to use it/don't know where to start.

Probably also a chicken and egg problem, a lot more people use lightning in El Salvador where you can use it on way more occasions.

I guess 80% of self custody bitcoin owners I met have a lightning wallet installed somewhere.
