Grid attached solar doesn't make sense.

But being offgrid the last 5 years has been awesome in my case. It's a hedge against future energy prices, and when you consider the base amount needed to just have an account on the grid it's already a lot cheaper in some ways. If you aren't already attached to the grid, it's substantially cheaper than attaching. And like others have mentioned it's a lot more stable, at least in my neck of the woods.
