Does nostr need to charge for accounts? Is it the only way to fight spam?

That's a shame. Blocking spammers all day like on X could be annoying.

So how does Nostr differ from X then?

Well so far it's much better. On X I am spammed non stop, it's a centralised cesspool is spammers and scammers.
