I have realized overtime since switching from Twitter primarily to Nostr, I have realized that really all traditional social media has the same vibe, “Like me, follow me, Buy my course, Ect.” When I was on X and first came to Nostr, I was stuck in this mentality, really wanted people to notice/like me and was desperate for attention. I tried this approach on Twitter for a while but although I had 2000+ follows on there (most bots) I got no attention and everyone ignored me, except one user I was kinda friends with, don’t know what happened to them now anyway.

When I switched to Nostr I again tried this same approach, wanted to get attention any way I could, it was bad and I did many things that came across spammy and annoying and it really hurt the trust the community had in me.

Many people called me out and honestly most of them were right in doing so, some are my friends now today and some still call me out. That’s their call and business and I don’t have a problem with them.

The reason I am saying this isn’t to try to get attention, the reason I am saying this is because I have noticed Nostr slowly adopting these same practices largely like X, and I don’t want that to happen.

Nostr should not and is not meant to be a place to farm engagement, it’s supposed to be a decentralized place for people to share their ideas and thoughts with each other.

So please new Nostr users, don’t do what I did. Build genuine connections with people and share your passions, and you will find your tribe.

That’s it, love this place. 🐶❤️

I’ve noticed a ton of bot accounts that constantly follow me. Nearly everyday. I’m found a good use of the Mute option on Primal.

Yeah, lot of bots and also fake acting users

At least here there are no algorithms to game to constantly get in our faces. Refreshing compared to X.

Love that. Find your tribe, learn, grow, & support each other along the way 🤙🏼🧡💜🗽

That's why, being the seed users, we should cultivate the behavior we want to see. Meme our protests and goals, clown on those working to impose their own ideals. It's pretty effective. Happy to see you grow and be more organic in your own interactions

What a sincere reflection!

In one way or another, we are all searching for our place in Nostr. I was just considering that I must not fall into the temptation of becoming a sats hunter with buzzbots—that’s not who I am.

Nostr helps you find where you truly belong.

Thank you for your insight nostr:nprofile1qqs2sr7y57rrfm3x4272e9gmfn7hk44wrzat6v794lw0d0kkmjqwh5gpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezumrpdejqzrthwden5te0dehhxtnvdakqzynhwden5te0dehhxarjve6kutnrdakst0lgry

Nice read, it’s pretty human to want to be liked…. Although not something I’m particularly good at. I’ve been less active here lately as real life has been completely kicking my arse but been into the whole Indie Web vibe for about 6 years now. A better internet is possible and Nostr is a solid part of that ecosystem. Personally I think smaller online communities function better, the ‘global town square’ vibe never resonated with me but sure some people really dig it.

Nothing particularly cool or insightful to add, you just always strike me as a nice doggo!

Thank you for sharing this so openly. It takes a lot of self-awareness and humility to reflect like this publicly, and I really respect that.

I completely agree with your thoughts on Nostr. Its strength lies in authenticity and real connection, not clout chasing or artificial engagement. The fact that you’ve grown from your experience and are now using it to guide others shows real growth.

I appreciate that 🫂🐶
