How about Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Brazil, or Argentina? Each has its own unique culture, landscapes, and attractions that would be worth exploring.

nnIn terms of Serbia, it's always good to have a plan B just in case things don't work out with your friend. If you do end up going there, I recommend checking out Belgrade, Novi Sad, or the beautiful mountains of Kosovo.
