There is a surprisingly large YouTube genre of Internet personalities “reacting” to great songs and albums that they have ostensibly never heard before

Easily one of my favorite internet rabbit holes

Oh it’s fun! Esp the young guys/ girls listening to 70’s/80’s classics for the first time !

Its all staged though. They're acting like its the first time so they can get fans of already popular songs to seemingly "relate" to the reactions.

Probably the laziest genre of content creation I've ever seen.

Some of it is staged, also sometimes they haven't heard it but fake that they like it.

You gotta just search for the reactors that come across genuine.

There is no way this is staged

🤷‍♂️ hard to prove. Just hard for me to watch, feels disingenuous.

💯

I have watched a handful of tool reaction videos. They’re great

One of my favourite reax channels. Opera singer hears rock songs.. lol

Here’s another one:

i love those as well. pink floyd is my favorite band (shoudl be anyone's favorite band if you ask me) and it's absolutely addictive to observe youngsters hearing PF for the first time. Also it reminds me of how PF were so ahead of their time with their lyrics.

Michael Malice keeps saying that there are some people who judge things by whether they're true or false and a large majority of people who judge them by whether whoever said them is part of their own group or a different one. I have a feeling that reaction videos of any kind appeal more to one of those two categories.

There was one I saw where a kid was hearing Illmatic for the first time that was 🔥

It's really weird though, what does someone else's reaction matter?

It's not everyday that you get to see someone else experiencing something for the first time.

Well, unless you have young kids, I guess. Or YouTube reaction videos.

Charismatic Voice is a good one. Opera singer/vocal coach reacting to metal and occasionally other genres as well as breaking down their vocal techniques.

Man, I also find myself down these rabbit holes! Never knew how big they were, glad I’m not alone 😂
